Experimental research often requires special mechanical or high-tech tools which need to be custom-made. Therefore the physics department has a well-equipped mechanical workshop. It offers several metal processing machines as well as modern computer-controlled machines.

Our highly qualified workshop staff produces equipment and experimental setups for research, lectures, and practical trainings. The mechanical workshop is located in the Physicum, Bldg. B3, 1st floor.

The electronics workshop offers a variety of services to the physics department like

  • repair of electronic devices and equipment
  • manufacturing of circuit layouts and circuit boards
  • technical advice and support during project design
  • design and construction of electronic devices
  • purchase and supply of materials

Experimental research often requires custom-made electronic equipment. We encourage you to contact our highly qualified workshop staff at the first stage of the project design and use our wide experience in measurement and control technology. The workshop is located in the Physical Institute at the 2nd floor.

Attention: Currently adjusted opening hours of the E-Workshop:

Monday – Thursday: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.; 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 – 3:15 p.m.

Friday: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.; 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

The helium liquifier is operated by the chair of Applied Physics and it converts helium gas into liquid helium (T = 4.2 K).  Liquid helium is not only used by experimentalists of the physics department but also by biological and medical institutions to cool their gadgets (magnetic resonance tomograph, biomagnetism).

The helium liquifier is located at the Physicum, building B3, basement, room U1.686.
