In recent years x-ray Talbot-Lau imaging has shown promising results in medical imaging and industrial applications. Nevertheless, there are still several problems which inhibit the use of x-ray Talbot-Lau imaging in workflow routine. Thus, for example the acquisition process is a time consuming process which is prone to mechanical instabilities and vibrations of the setup and to motion of the imaged object. Furthermore, the field of view still comprises only a few square centimeters which makes it necessary to image extended objects by several small images which are combined afterwards to a large one.
In this talk, possibilities to overcome these problems should be presented and the feasibility of Talbot-Lau imaging should be increased with regard to workflow routines in medical imaging and industrial applications.
Firstly, an alternative, single-shot acquisition method, so-called moiré imaging, is introduced and analysed. The corresponding reconstruction method is adapted to receive artifact free images. Applications in medical imaging are tested with the help of this method and images of moving objects are shown.
Secondly, a scanning setup is presented which makes it possible to image an extended object within one single acquisition. This is mandatory to increase the feasibility of Talbot-Lau imaging for daily use.
Finally, a method is presented to determine the weighted mean energy of an unknown spectrum by propagation-based phase-contrast imaging. This makes it possible to design setups which fit best for the given parameters and which, consequently, provide images with the best image quality.
